An opportunity to improve global nutrition status
April 2023
A resolution on food fortification comes before the World Health Assembly in May 2023
Fortifying foods with micronutrients can help improve nutritional status. A new resolution on food fortification at this year’s World Health Assembly (May 21-30) has united health policy, disability rights and nutrition advocates in support of this effort to prevent the consequences of deficiency, including spina bifida and other neural tube defects. How can you help? The Fortifying our Future team of partners have some suggestions:
- Read the resolution.
- Encourage your country to make a statement of support at the WHA. Find out who will be representing your country and share information with them. Read more here.
- Ask them to make a formal statement of support either from the floor or in writing.
- Learn which organizations have endorsed the resolution.
- Learn more about food fortification by watching this video.
- Invite your government’s WHA delegates to attend a special side event being hosted by the governments of Colombia, Ecuador and Malaysia. Delegates can register here.
